Cautions about findings

The presence or absence of certain findings is not straightforward because sometimes a finding depends on other factors.  To assist with this, we’ve added cautions to emphasize the fine points.

One example is that the interpretation of calcium levels in blood depends on the level of serum albumin. A caution is accessible via the red asterisk to the left of the finding:

Another example is that absence of fever can be due to medications such as steroids. Accordingly, one should be careful about the pertinence of absence of fever in a patient on steroids.

These cautions encapsulate pearls of clinical wisdom and make them available just-in-time to clinicians making a diagnosis.
